Year 2

September 2024: Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome back to school after what I hope was a fantastic summer holiday.

This term our main topics are 'The Great Fire of London' and ‘Our Local Area’.  Keep an eye out for pictures of the children at work in their new class as the weeks progress...on this webpage and on their Seesaw account.

I have attached the overview of the term's topics.

PE days are:

Monday - Games with Mr Fyfe (outside weather permitting)

I would recommend sending your child to school without earrings on PE days.  If not, please ensure your child can remove their own earrings (there is a mirror in class or a friend will be invited to help them).  If they can’t put them back in, I will send them home in an envelope or you can send in a little pot for them to place them in safely so that they do not get lost from class to home.  All clothing and footwear needs to be clearly labelled.

Homework and Class Newsletter:

Homework will be set each Thursday or Friday and sent home via the NO REPLY email.  Spellings will usually be tested on a Thursday or Friday – we aim to photograph the results when we have time and add to Seesaw so you can see how well they have done and which ones may still need some practise.  Library and reading quizzes will be completed on the following days:

Monday - Matthew Team

Tuesday - Mark Team

Wednesday - Luke Team

Thursday - John Team

Library bedtime books are to be shared together and they will not be quizzed on these - they have a Reading Journey sticker on them and are not necessarily at your child’s reading level and can be enjoyed together with an adult reading to them if necessary.

RE Autumn Topic Whole School Overview

October 2024 - We have created prayers for our prayer partners in Year 4 and they have created some for us. We shared these with each other in a special collective worship.

October 2024 - Prayer stones - We have created prayer stones for our prayer table to help us focus when we pray.

October 2024 - We played a game outside linked to our geography topic. They worked in teams to match symbols from a map to what they represent.

October 2024 - Year 6 and Year 2 Teaching the Rosary - Year 6 sat with the class today and assisted them in praying the rosary. They went through the formation of the rosary and what prayers to say. They then said the prayers together. It was a very spiritual lesson.

October 2024 - Celebrating God's gifts using music to represent the weather, nature, friends and family, the world.

October 2024 - Art dream catchers

September 2024 - In maths sessions, the children have been using equipment to help solve part-whole model problems to learn about place value in numbers.

September 2024 - God's Covenant represented by the symbol of the rainbow - the children created their own rainbows to remember God's promise and relate it to the Sacrament of Baptism. These will be used later in the topic to evaluate their own learning and how they will take this mission forward in their own lives.

September 2024 - Branch 1 Creation and Covenant - The story of Noah - The children worked in teams to present the story of Noah.

September 2024 - Prayer bag - Each week in class we celebrate together with prayers, scripture and hymns. We use the CST animals to help us learn about how best to live God's messages and rules to make the world a better place and to grow closer to God. The child who has had the Prayer Bag each week leades the collective worship with support by setting the table and sharing the prayer they have written at home.

September 2024 - Measuring our toys

September 2024 - Meeting our Prayer Partners - Our Prayer Partners are Year 4 and we met them in class today. We shared information about ourselves and our families to get to know each other a little better. We have been set a homework to write a prayer for our partner to give them when we next meet.

CST Animals - We love to learn about the animals. It helps us to think about how to look after God's world living God's word in how we behave and act towards others in our class, family, community and the world. We look forward to receiving our CST jar each week so that we can recognise and nominate children in our class when they are demonstrating these great qualities.

September 2024 - Enjoying God's creations on our local area walk and learning to cross the road safely.
