Year 2

April 2024

Welcome back to school after what I hope was a restful and faithful Easter break.

This term our main topics are 'Where in the World' and ‘Regal Royalty’.  Keep an eye out for pictures of the children at work as the weeks progress...on this webpage and on our Seesaw account.

I have attached the overview of this term's topic.

Summer Curriculum Overview

PE days are:

Tuesday - Games with Mr Fyfe (outside weather permitting)

I would recommend sending your child to school without earrings on PE days.  If not, please ensure your child can remove their own earrings (there is a mirror in class or a friend will be invited to help them).  If they can’t put them back in, I will send them home in an envelope or you can send in a little pot for them to place them in safely so that they do not get lost from class to home.  All clothing and footwear needs to be clearly labelled.

Homework and Class Newsletter:

Homework will be set each Thursday or Friday and sent home via the NO REPLY email.  Spellings will usually be tested on a Thursday – results of these are photographed by your child and added to Seesaw so you can see how well they have done and which ones may still need some practise.  Library and reading quizzes will be completed on the following days:

Monday - Matthew Team

Tuesday - Mark Team

Wednesday - Luke Team

Thursday - John Team

Library bedtime books are to be shared together and they will not be quizzed on these - they have a Reading Journey sticker on them and are not necessarily at your child’s reading level and can be enjoyed together with an adult reading to them if necessary.

Summer 2024 - Class collective worship led by the children in class

Summer 2024-Science investigating absorbancy

January 2024: Happy New Year

Welcome back to school after what I hope was a fantastic Christmas break and hopefully feeling healthier and better than the end of our Autumn term.

This term our main topics are 'Hot and Cold' and ‘Extraordinary Explorers’.  Keep an eye out for pictures of the children at work as the weeks progress...on this webpage and on our Seesaw account.

I have attached the overview of this term's topic.

Spring 2024 Curriculum Overview

February 2024 - English - working in teams to sort pictures and labels linked to our learning about the text 'What do you do with a tail like this?'

February 2024 - Celebrating Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent.

January 2024 - Maths - Learning about coins and giving change by playing 'shops' in class.

February 2024 - Anti Bullying Week - Children have had a circle time together to share what kindness looks like...then created their own booklets ‘Kindness is...’ They have also been working with different children in the class helping each other with work throughout the week. I led an assembly with the whole school on bullying behaviour and what this looks like and how we can change the behaviour to become a positive thing. Just because someone shows bullying behaviour once, doesn’t mean they have to do it again - behaviour is a choice that can be changed.

January 2024 - PE Fitness Tests

Prayer Partners - Year 2 and Year 4 have been matched together. Each person has a prayer partner from the other class and we meet together to talk, pray, share our thoughts and feelings about topics.

Prayer Bags and Collective Worship in Year 2 - Each week, we celebrate in class together with prayers, scripture and hymns. We use the CST animals to help us learn about how best to live God's messages and rules to make the world a better place and to become closer to God. The child who has had the Prayer Bag each week leads the collective worship by setting the table and sharing their prayer written at home.

CST Animals - We love learning about each animal. It helps us think how to be part of God's world living God's word in how we behave and act towards others in our class, family, community and the world. We look forward to receiving our CST jar each week so that we can recognise and nomninate children in our class when they are demonstrating these great qualities.

January 2024 - RE and Drama - Acting out parts of the mass

January 2024 - RE and Drama - Jesus Presentation at the Temple
