Year 2

January 2024: Happy New Year

Welcome back to school after what I hope was a fantastic Christmas break and hopefully feeling healthier and better than the end of our Autumn term.

This term our main topics are 'Hot and Cold' and ‘Extraordinary Explorers’.  Keep an eye out for pictures of the children at work as the weeks progress...on this webpage and on our Seesaw account.

I have attached the overview of this term's topic.

Spring 2024 Curriculum Overview

September 2023: Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome back to school after what I hope was a fantastic summer holiday.

This term our main topics are 'The Great Fire of London' and ‘Our Local Area’.  Keep an eye out for pictures of the children at work in their new class as the weeks progress...on this webpage and on our Seesaw account.

I have attached the overview of the term's topic.

PE days are:

Tuesday - Games with Mr Fyfe (outside weather permitting)

I would recommend sending your child to school without earrings on PE days.  If not, please ensure your child can remove their own earrings (there is a mirror in class or a friend will be invited to help them).  If they can’t put them back in, I will send them home in an envelope or you can send in a little pot for them to place them in safely so that they do not get lost from class to home.  All clothing and footwear needs to be clearly labelled.

Homework and Class Newsletter:

Homework will be set each Thursday or Friday and sent home via the NO REPLY email.  Spellings will usually be tested on a Thursday – results of these are photographed by your child and added to Seesaw so you can see how well they have done and which ones may still need some practise.  Library and reading quizzes will be completed on the following days:

Monday - Matthew Team

Tuesday - Mark Team

Wednesday - Luke Team

Thursday - John Team

Library bedtime books are to be shared together and they will not be quizzed on these - they have a Reading Journey sticker on them and are not necessarily at your child’s reading level and can be enjoyed together with an adult reading to them if necessary.

December 2023 - Key Stage One Christmas Nativity - The Noisy Nativity - The children sung, narrated and acted their amazing nativity and learned the true meaning of Christmas while using scripture to present this to parents and friends.

December 2023 - RE-based art work - we discovered the 'Adoration of the Shepherds' and discussed what we could see in the artwork and then created our own to reflect Jesus as an image/symbol in the middle of the page using bright and light colours and darker shades as we move away from this image - just like the artist did in the original piece.

December 2023 - Advent Preparations - We made our own Advent wreaths in teams and each week we discussed what each candle represented.

September 2023 - RE Creation Story team work to create posters to show scripture inspired by theatre visit ‘God’s Planet’

September 2023 - International Dot Day - celebrating the children's bravery, creativity and self-expression - God's special gifts to us to make us unique

September 2023 - Enjoying God's creations on out local area walk and learning to cross the road safely
