Transition to Secondary School
Secondary School Transition
Moving onto secondary school is always an enormous change for children. During year 6 we help the children to develop their independent skills, and routines so that they are ready for transition. Time management skills and increased responsibility with involvement in the running of the school eg: School Council, Sports Ambassadors, Play leaders and Peer Mediators. We run a workshop for parents during which we discuss all elements of transition. In class the children have many opportunities to discuss transition. Past pupils visit to share their experiences. Holy Family staff liaise closely with secondary schools to allow them to get to know their new intake. For pupils with particular needs extra visits are arranged. We end our time together with a special Leavers' Mass which celebrates the children's time at Holy Family, and also offers prayers for their happy and successful future education and life.
As a Catholic Primary School many of our children move onto St John Payne Catholic School in Chelmsford.
