Preparing for Lent
The children have been told the story of the 'Sleeping Joseph' and how we can write down our worries and give them to him to pray to God. This was what Pope Francis introduced to us in the Year of Joseph

🙏🏻 LENT 2021 🙏🏻
The season of Lent is now upon us. Beginning on Ash Wednesday (17th Feb), Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. This is a time for healing, reflection, fasting and prayer.
Below are various activities that will enable the children and their families to welcome the season of Lent into their hearts and homes. During these uncertain times when some families are not going to church, we have included Sunday activities that your children can do to celebrate their faith in the safety of their home. We hope that using these activities will be part of your daily reflection on this most sacred of times in the church's calendar.

We hope you appreciate the episode. It contains something new, a period of guided, Ignatian style prayer as well as the usual Gospel reading, reflection and worship song.
Advent
At Holy Family we always look forward to Advent. It is a chance to find times in the school day and week to slow down and reflect upon the approach to Christmas, and what the true meaning of Christmas is. Indeed to put 'Christ' back into Christmas. I always start the Advent season with the following song:
We then look at the Advent wreath, that has been kindly made by a member of staff, and see how it helps us to prepare for the birth of Christ.
Thank you to Mrs. Rajeev, who made the school Advent Wreath this year.
🙏🏻MEDITATION DURING THIS CRISIS 🙏🏻
During the Coronavirus crisis the Catholic Children’s Society have collaborated with the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM) to develop a series of videos on meditation which children and young people can participate in, whether in school or at home.
Each consists of a phase-appropriate introduction leading to a period of meditation.
The Primary series are released each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Secondary series are released on Thursdays.
Stations of the Cross
Pope Francis’s prayer to Our Lady during coronavirus pandemic:
O Mary,
you always shine on our path
as a sign of salvation and of hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm.
You, Salvation of the Roman People,
know what we need,
and we are sure you will provide
so that, as in Cana of Galilee,
we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform to the will of the Father
and to do as we are told by Jesus,
who has taken upon himself our sufferings
and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross,
to the joy of the resurrection.
Amen.
RE EDUCATIONAL LINKS
During these unprecedented times when we are all at home trying to keep our families safe and protected, we often rely on our faith to see us through. So whilst we are trying to home school in Maths and English, RE and learning about Lent, Easter and prayer can be a calming respite to the core subjects.
Many websites are providing free resources for you to access with your children to talk to them and work with them about the Easter story. Many of these sites are updating weekly, so please come back and access them often.
🙏🏼🙏🏼CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY February 2020 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Today we had a lovely celebration assembly and all the different Year Groups talked about their RE learning of this term. It was a beautiful assembly that ranged from Hinduism to the Dead Sea scrolls and the commandments. The art work and prayers were beautifully presented.
KS2 Prayer Service - 🙏🏼
The Worship council in KS2 gave a wonderfull prayer service today to talk about the start of Advent. It was a lovely service that was delivered in a respectful manner. Well done to all involved.
First Worship Council Assembly - Harvest Festival
Today the New Worship council gave the school a lovely assembly on the Harvest Festival. All the years took part and it was so lovely to see the older children help the younger children with their parts.
As well as talking about the theme of Harvest festival the Worship council impressed upon the school community the need to bring in a small contribution to the Food Bank fund. If every child in the school brought in a single item of food, the food bank would receive a much needed boost to its supplies.
Thank you Worship Council.
Stations of the Cross 🙏🏻
Today as part of our Holy Week celebrations we reflected on the Stations of the Cross. The children all listened as each station was read out and responded to a small prayer. It was a lovely and moving celebration.
LENTEN CELEBRATION
Today the whole school delivered a celebration service where each class discussed how they have been learning about Lent. They celebrated their work through pictures, prayers, art work and song. It was a lovely service and the children’s work was wonderful to see.

Religious Education
RE fulfils the requirements of the Religious Education Curriculum Directory as published by the Bishops of England and Wales. The RE curriculum at Holy Family follows the Diocesan approved scheme ‘Come and See’, and doctrine is taught in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church. The School aims for the Christian growth of its children in their own faith and in their awareness of the world around them.
Respect for other faiths and cultures is part of our mission and the teaching of other cultures and religions is an important part of our programme within the context of the requirements of the Curriculum Directory. Pupils will be taught about the integrity of other faiths and not as comparative religion. Pupils will learn about the beliefs, expression and celebration, living and belonging, of the principal religions in Great Britain.
School Masses, class Masses, daily prayers and assemblies are central to our worship. The school works closely with the Parish priest and the parish to develop the spiritual life of pupils and their families.
