At Holy Family, our Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do. Alongside this, we proudly promote British values that help our children grow into kind, confident and responsible members of society. These include respect for others, democracy, personal freedom, tolerance and inclusion.
We celebrate diversity and encourage our pupils to show understanding and respect towards people of all faiths and belief systems. We believe that learning to value differences helps children develop empathy, compassion and a strong sense of community.
Democracy
We give children a voice in school life through groups such as the School Council, Laudato Si and Chaplaincy Team leaders. Pupils are encouraged to share their ideas and opinions, knowing they will be listened to. We also invite visitors, including local MPs, Councillors and other speakers, to help children understand how democracy works in the wider world.
The Rule of Law
Clear expectations help everyone feel safe and secure. Children help to create class rules and learn about the importance of fairness and responsibility. Our behaviour policy is shared and understood by all, and visits from the police service help reinforce messages about right and wrong. Through Religious Education, pupils also learn about God’s laws, such as the Ten Commandments.
Individual Liberty
We encourage children to become independent learners who are confident to make choices and take responsibility for their actions. Quiet reflection and personal thinking time are built into school life to support emotional and spiritual growth.
Mutual Respect
We work hard to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. Good manners and respect for others are promoted every day, and children are encouraged to listen to and appreciate different viewpoints. We have a strong anti-bullying policy and regularly support charitable causes, helping pupils understand that everyone is unique and created in the image of God.
Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Our Religious Education curriculum helps pupils develop a strong understanding of their own faith while also learning about the beliefs and traditions of other religions. Through Bible stories such as The Good Samaritan and Jesus and the Woman at the Well, children learn how Jesus taught love, acceptance and respect for all.
