THE YEAR 6 CLASS OF 2020/21
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL !!
WE HAVE MISSED YOU ALL. WE ARE SO GLAD THAT YOU HAVE FINALLY MADE IT TO THE BEST YEAR IN THE SCHOOL!!
We hope you will all enjoy your final year at Holy Family School, and we want you to know that we are here to support you throughout Year 6. Myself, and Mrs Collett and Mrs Cox will be here to help you every step of the way. We hope you will really love this year at school and be ready for the journey to secondary school that awaits.
Lets make this the best year ever.
We have continued with our Lent activities this week, and have celebrated as a class by reading through and thinking about the stations of the cross. It was a lovely celebration of all that Jesus did for us and the children read through and reflected on the stations with empathy and maturity.
Earlier on in the week, the children made Lenten Pretzels. This complimented their research that that did for homework on why the pretzel is linked to Lent and what the shape of it is a symbol of.
They worked really hard kneeling and rolling their pretzels. We think they enjoyed eating them too! 🥨🥨😋😋
🎉🎉WELCOME BACK YEAR 6 🎈🎈
We are so happy to have Year 6 back in school!!! We have had fun this week catching up on everything they have been doing since we saw them last.
We’ve had a few days of settling back in and getting back into the habit of learning without being in front of a computer!
Also as this week was Science week 🧪🔬🦠🌡, we have done lots of fun practical activities (see photos below). We have also been doing some craft/DT activities, working and learning about the season of Lent for our RE studies. The children have made Lenten booklets, crosses and by the end of the week Pretzels. 🥨🥨
5th January 2021
You will know after the government announcement that sadly HFS is closed until after the February half term. This means that all children should remain at home, with the exception of agreed vulnerable (we don’t have any pupils in Foundation who meet this criteria) and agreed Keyworker (both parents/single parent household) children who once it has been agreed with Mrs Kelliher can be onsite for times when their parent is at work. Any shift workers will need to provide rotas.
Please see class emails and our usual online learning platforms.
Mrs Kelliher has also put lots of information on the coronavirus page on the school website (go to the Key Information tab)
Thank you for your support and understanding.
14th January 21

The children worked really hard making their chocolate reindeer. Great fun was had by all and some well needed funds collected for the school. Thank you all for sending in your donations.

BLACKOUT POETRY 📜
Continuing our work on WWII the children have been reading the book ‘Once’, a story about a young Jewish boy who is determined to escape the orphanage he lives in to save his Jewish parents from the Nazis in occupied Poland. They chose a theme from the story for their poetry and then blackout whole pages highlighting the important words for their poem. The work was beautifully done. There are some finished examples below.
VIXTRIX WWII 💣💣- History Day
Well, what an exciting day the children had learning, and re-enacting parts of WWII. The children learnt all about the war effort, call up to duty, women going to work in the factories, the Battle of Britain, the Dunkirk evacuation with small boats. They learnt about how battle strategy was implemented, how radar played a big part in winning the war. The mistakes that Hitler and the Germans made that gave the allies the edge in the war. The children were evacuated, bombed, acted out the relay of commands from relay stations to the war room and were spitfires, messerschmitt’s and bombers in the playground in a real life bombing raid.
They have learnt many new things that they didn’t know in advance and had a really productive and fun day.
INTERNET - E_SAFETY
Year 6 have been working through the Internet Legends Programme supplied by Google and Parent Zone for their E-Safety instructions this year. The children had to work through 4 Islands, each one reflecting a different area of being safe online. Once the children had completed the islands they got a certificate for that level.
The children learnt loads about being safe online, what to look out for and how being KIND is the best way to be when talking to others.
The children had a good discussion today in regard to 'What is Bullying' and how do we stop it. What to do if your being bullied, who to talk too and how to spot bullying when it's happening to someone else.
The children watched two very interesting videos, and discussed them as a group. One video was called 'Nobody is Normal' and the other was 'Story of Ariana who bullied others.'
We were so pleased at how very mature about the discussions they were, and there was a great class discussion on the topics.
We also went online to GoBubble and looked at the #GoKind challenge they have set for this month. The children wrote pledges to all try and work hard on random acts of kindness, to celebrate the kindness of our school community, to think of others and not just ourselves.
WORLD WAR II
The children were asked as their half term project to create something on WWll. It could be a poster, an air raid shelter, an evacuation suitcase...anything that piqued their interest. Below is some of their work.
Well we all had a fun end to the first half term in Year 6. 😀😀😀😀
Year 6 chose dress down day and a film with snacks for their H&R day and fun was had by all.
The Year 6 team wish you all a great half term. Relax, chill and enjoy your week off, ready to come back for another fun half term.
ONLY ANOTHER 9 weeks till Christmas 🎄 ⛄️!!!!!
🙏🏼🙏🏼CAFOD ASSEMBLY - 10th Sept 2020 🙏🏼🙏🏼
The children watched an assembly today prepared by CAFOD. It was all about the WORLD WE WANT.
They had informative talks from children their age about how the world we live in today has changed. They talked about Hope, Love, Fairness, Respect, Faith, Caring, Peace and Unity.
The children were asked to think about making a pledge....one thing they could change to make the world we live in a better place. They wrote out their pledge cards and pictures of them are below.
